Programming Languages



As with the mainframe, many believe that COBOL should be as extinct as the Dodo, but this is not the case COBOL has been enhanced many times over the years, embracing features requested by the user population. These enhancements include those shown opposite.

In addition more languages, some more modern than others, have been added to the portfolio.

At least one UK bank has replaced the COBOL middle-ware programs used by CICS/TS to provide SOAP services, with JAVA programs. JAVA unlike COBOL can address storage above the 2GB bar directly, so is useful for dealing with bulky transaction items.

Mainframe / Cloud programming



  • Traditional languages such as COBOL have been enhanced to provide:

    • The ability to create JAVA classes
    • The ability to perform XML parsing
    • Support for JSON Parsing


  • New languages are supported such as;

    • C and C++
    • JAVA
    • Python
