Mainframe & the Cloud

Given the level of virtualisation, the ability to store and process large quantities of data, and the diversity of the applications supported it might be argued that the mainframe was a cloud before the term was introduced.

The combination of TCPIP and the Open Systems Adaptor (OSA) with the ability to connect to a LAN, have already been covered and these position the mainframe to be part of a larger cloud.

The remaining slides describe how the mainframe can integrate more fully.
